Hey There,
I'm taking a 4-week break from writing.
That Covid Feeling...
Last week, my little one came back from school feeling unwell. Before I knew it, we were both nursing high fevers and body aches. My joints hurt, I had no appetite, and all I wanted to do was lie in bed. It felt like Covid all over again.
Except this time, it wasn't.
It was Influenza.
I felt like I was down and out - mentally, physically and emotionally.
Then, I channelled my inner David Goggins.
I'm all good now—I even ran 5 km today. But the week-long illness was a sign. I need to take it easy.
So I am.
If you are wondering who David Goggins is, here’s a short cartoon starring Joe Rogan, Elon Musk and him that will tell you much about his mindset.
A Habit That Surprised Me
In January 2023, I started writing Marketing Dojo to share insights from the chaotic marketing world in a simple, conversational format. And boy, am I thankful I did.
Writing this newsletter has been an anchor in an otherwise unpredictable year and a half. I've expanded my network, gotten to know some of you, and built tiny bit of self-confidence.
Looking back, I'm proud to have published 66 issues; there's more to come. I have many ideas for the future:
Marketing Interviews: Marketing is social. I want to include a section where I interview a marketer about something interesting they're working on.
Spiky Point of View: Not quite like Prof. Scott Galloway or Gary Vee, but I admire those with unique perspectives. Can I develop my own?
Same Destination, Different Path: I love writing, but is it the only way to simplify the marketing world? I've meant to try short-form videos, but I'm too shy. Last week, I saw a graduation speech from someone I admire very much. The speech is wisdom-dense. I highly recommend it.
A part of that spoke to me: action precedes motivation. I must make and edit that first one-minute video to find the elusive motivation.
Better Marketing for the Newsletter: This is and will remain a passion project, but I want to improve at promoting it.
Writing Long-Form: I have a list of essays I want to write someday. Maybe it's time to set some deadlines for them.
Action Precedes Motivation
I'm confident this break will bring something fresh from the communicator in me.
In the coming weeks, I'll take a holiday and meet my parents and cousins. I haven't seen my loved ones all year. So, in a way, I'm working on the second level of Stutz's life forces (did I mention I'm a fan of his work?).
I also want to catch up with my network over coffee. If you haven't already, consider reading my advice on the magical effects of not owning a coffee machine.
Thank you again for subscribing, liking, commenting, and sometimes directly reaching out with your feedback.
See you in a month. I can't wait to be back.
Signing off,
Garima
